On this Giving Tuesday, a baby pangolin named Tikki in Nigeria is in urgent need of your compassion. Pangolins are facing severe threats of extinction due to relentless poaching activities. Fortunately, thanks to the dedicated efforts of conservation teams, Tikki was rescued from a bushmeat market in a distressing condition.
This eight-month-old pangolin was found crammed into a dirty sack and was infested with hundreds of ticks that were draining her health. The situation was dire, marking the worst case of infestation seen by the Greenfingers Wildlife Conservation Initiative (GWCI), the organization caring for her. Each tick had to be painstakingly removed by hand to save her life.
Tikki requires specialized care, including a monitored recovery and a unique milk formula for the next several months. Just $100 (around £77) per month is needed to provide her with essential nutrition and care—a significant amount in a country where the monthly minimum wage is less than $42 (£32.50).
GWCI is not only focused on Tikki; they often rescue pangolins from dire conditions across West Africa. Many are just weeks old and face similar challenges to survive. Your contribution could be crucial in giving these defenseless animals a chance at life.
Pangolins have evolved unique defenses with their tough keratin scales, making them resilient against most predators except for humans, who hunt them relentlessly. Conservation efforts and community support are essential for the survival of these creatures in the coming years.
We invite you to take action today. Your generosity can make a significant difference not just for Tikki but for the future of pangolins everywhere. Please consider donating and sharing Tikki’s story with your friends and family—every bit of support helps in the battle against extinction.
Let’s work together to ensure that pangolins continue to thrive in the wild and that Tikki and others like her receive the care they need. With compassion and action, we can create a brighter future for these remarkable animals.
