Rochester, N.Y. — A heat advisory is currently in effect for much of Western New York, including Livingston, Monroe, Orleans, Ontario, Wayne, and Yates counties, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 80s, with humidity making it feel like the mid-90s during the afternoon and evening. Residents are advised to limit outdoor activities, particularly between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, especially for those engaging in any strenuous outdoor work.

Those seeking relief from the heat are encouraged to find air conditioning or head to a pool. While summer enthusiasts may enjoy the warmth, cooler weather is on the horizon.

Wednesday afternoon and evening may bring tropical storms, primarily affecting areas south and east of Rochester. These storms could provide a significant temperature drop of 10 to 15 degrees, although severe weather is not anticipated. Briefly strong storms could develop, particularly in the Finger Lakes region.

A more substantial relief from heat and humidity is expected with a cold front moving in late Thursday afternoon into Thursday evening. This front may also bring scattered showers and thunderstorms. Following the frontal passage, humidity levels will decrease significantly, with dew points dropping from the upper 60s to the lower 50s or upper 40s.

Temperatures are forecasted to drop from the mid to upper 80s on Thursday to the upper 70s by Friday. The pleasant conditions are expected to persist into the early part of the weekend, offering a welcome respite from the summer heat.

Stay tuned for updates from local weather authorities.
