OXFORD — Fans of both Ole Miss football and Oklahoma united in a heartfelt moment during Saturday’s matchup between the Rebels and the Sooners.
No. 18 Ole Miss (6-2, 2-2 SEC) triumphed over Oklahoma with a score of 26-14 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
With less than 12 minutes left in the game, play was halted due to an incident requiring medical assistance. Dr. Kurre Luber, who was present on the Ole Miss sideline, collapsed on the ground as three medical professionals swiftly rushed to his aid. After several minutes of care, he was able to get back on his feet.
Luber walked off the field to loud applause from the crowd.
“That was a scary moment,” Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin remarked. “I didn’t witness the incident with Dr. Luber immediately. He’s been incredible for us and supportive to my family. He’s a great man, and it was truly frightening to see him not moving.”
Almost the entire Rebels roster gathered around Luber to offer their support, with Kiffin noting that the team shared a collective prayer.
Upon his recovery and return to his feet, Luber was met with enthusiastic cheers.
“I told (defensive end) Jared (Ivey) after we prayed, ‘That was a very powerful prayer,’ because he stood up right after we finished,” Kiffin shared. “It was wonderful to see him back with us. We encountered him afterwards, and he appeared much better than we had initially feared.”
