Hayden Panettiere is sharing her journey of healing following the loss of her brother, Jansen Panettiere, nearly two years after his unexpected passing. Jansen died in 2023 from complications related to an enlarged heart, which left Hayden feeling as though she had “lost half of my soul.” In a recent interview with People, the actress expressed her deep sorrow, stating, “I will always be heartbroken about it. I will never be able to get over it.”
The emotional toll of Jansen’s death also manifested physically for Panettiere, who noted significant changes in her body. She gained 40 pounds due to stress and high cortisol levels, and her confidence plummeted as she struggled with her appearance. Following her brother’s funeral, she experienced intense feelings of agoraphobia and was confronted by unflattering paparazzi photos, which exacerbated her distress.
Last year, Panettiere began working with personal trainer Marnie Alton, who introduced her to a fitness regimen that felt more supportive than punitive. Alton not only helped her improve her physical health but also provided a space for emotional support through long walks and open conversations. Panettiere credited these sessions with helping her release built-up stress and reassess her self-expectations.
Almost two years after her brother’s passing, she is beginning to feel more like herself again. Panettiere described a newfound sense of contentment focused on what truly matters to her, particularly her daughter, Kaya. The actress is also in the process of writing her autobiography, aiming to present her authentic self. Despite her grief, she believes Jansen’s spirit will always be with her.
