The Atlanta Hawks are reportedly open to trading their 2024 No. 1 overall pick, Zaccharie Risacher, but under the right circumstances. The team appears hesitant to pursue a trade for Dallas Mavericks’ Anthony Davis, according to NBA insider Marc Stein. He indicated that the Hawks do not believe a mid-season deal for Davis aligns with their expectations for Risacher.

Stein highlighted that while the Mavericks may be looking to move on from Davis, this does not guarantee a trade will happen before the February 5 deadline. Any potential trade involving the All-Star forward is likely to come with his approval, and the Mavericks might opt to wait until the offseason, particularly as the NBA draft approaches. Furthermore, there are indications that Davis’s representation would favor Atlanta should serious trade discussions arise.

Despite their reluctance to move Risacher in a deal for Davis, the Hawks have not completely dismissed the idea of trading for the big man. NBA insider Chris Haynes reported recently that Atlanta remains interested in acquiring Davis. The Mavericks, on the other hand, are focusing their efforts on obtaining expiring contracts, young prospects, and draft picks, rather than seeking established stars like Trae Young.

Risacher’s performance thus far in his young career has not met expectations. After averaging 12.6 points per game as a rookie, he has seen a decline to 10.6 points, along with 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists in the current season. However, at just 20 years old, there is still ample opportunity for growth and development. The Hawks seem committed to fostering Risacher’s potential, suggesting they may be willing to exercise patience as they navigate their roster’s future.
