Atlanta Hawks guard Dyson Daniels, renowned for his defensive prowess, has secured a significant four-year, $100 million contract extension with the team, as confirmed by his agent Daniel Moldovan of Lighthouse Sports Management. This announcement was officially made by the Hawks on Monday, although specific contract details were not disclosed.
Daniels earned the NBA’s Most Improved Player of the Year honor and was a runner-up for the Defensive Player of the Year award last season. He also made the first team All-Defense and recorded 229 steals, setting a new record for the most steals in a season by any player since Gary Payton accomplished this feat during the 1995-96 season.
Drafted as the eighth overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft, Daniels significantly raised his performance during the past season, averaging 14.1 points—up from 5.8 the previous season—alongside 5.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 3.0 steals. His contribution has been remarkable, making him the first player to average three steals per game since Alvin Robertson did so in the 1990-91 season.
Daniels joined the Hawks in July 2024 in a trade that sent Dejounte Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans, bringing along a first-round pick. His partnership with star point guard Trae Young has proven fruitful thus far in Atlanta. As the Hawks aim for greater success, the addition of defensive assets like Daniels, alongside other promising players such as Jalen Johnson and 2024 No. 1 pick Zaccharie Risacher, paints a hopeful picture for the team’s future.
