Hannah Kobayashi, a 30-year-old woman from Hawaii who was reported missing last month, has made her first statement after being located and crossing back into the United States from Mexico. On December 15, she returned to the U.S. and emphasized the importance of her health and wellbeing as she processes the recent events surrounding her disappearance.
In a message sent from her aunt’s phone, Kobayashi expressed her gratitude to those who showed her compassion throughout the search effort and asked for privacy as she navigates this challenging phase in her life. She stated, “My focus now is on my healing, my peace, and my creativity,” and underscored her desire for respect for herself and her family during this time.
The Los Angeles police confirmed on Monday that they have closed the missing persons case after receiving notification from Customs and Border Protection regarding her re-entry into the U.S., reporting that she appeared to be in good health.
Kobayashi was initially reported missing on November 11, following her arrival at Los Angeles International Airport from Hawaii, where she failed to catch her connecting flight to New York. Her case was reclassified to a voluntary missing persons case after it was discovered that she willingly crossed into Mexico on November 12. Moreover, police officials indicated that there is no evidence to suggest she was a victim of trafficking or foul play.
Kobayashi’s family had received numerous donations for the search effort through a GoFundMe page, which they announced will be refunded following her return.
This situation highlights the importance of understanding and respecting the personal needs of individuals, especially during times of emotional distress. Kobayashi’s safe return can serve as a reminder of the strength of family support and community compassion during difficult times. As she embarks on her healing journey, it provides hope to many that the right kind of support can lead people through their challenges toward a brighter future.
