William Havili is set to make history as the first Moana Pasifika player to reach 50 matches when the team faces off against the Fijian Drua in Lautoka this Saturday. Since the club’s inception in 2022, Havili has been a key figure, alongside three other players who have remained loyal to the team since its foundation.

“It’s an honour and a privilege to not only play one game but 50 games for Moana,” remarked Havili, expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming match as he aims to deliver a strong performance for fans and secure a victory.

Head coach Fa’alogo Tana Umaga emphasized the significance of the match, stating, “Anytime we play against the Fijian Drua, it’s special. What an awesome opportunity it is to celebrate the start of Super Rugby Pacific with two teams representing the Pacific Islands and playing in the Islands.” He highlighted the pride in showcasing Pacific culture while acknowledging the challenge the Drua presents, particularly with their home crowd support.

Havili echoed this sentiment, noting the competitive nature of their Pacific rivals. “It’s awesome playing against our Pacific brothers. They are an expansive team and they like to throw the ball around. It will be a good match-up, especially over there in Fiji,” he said, revealing the team’s readiness to embrace the challenge.

Born and raised in Motueka, Havili has demonstrated exceptional growth since his Super Rugby debut against the Crusaders. Known for his playmaking and leadership, the 27-year-old has become a reliable presence on the field, paving the way for emerging talent within the Moana Pasifika team.

In this historic match, Moana Pasifika will also see Miracle Faiilagi captain the team for the first time, supported by strong back-row players Semisi Paea and Semisi Tupou Ta’eiloa. Fans are particularly excited to see powerhouse Ngani Laumape wearing Moana colors, paired with Lalomilo Lalomilo in a dynamic midfield partnership.

With a mix of experience and fresh talent, Moana Pasifika is poised for an exciting showdown early in the Super Rugby season, and the anticipation among fans and players alike continues to grow.
