Starting tomorrow, Fijians will have the chance to voice their opinions on proposed changes to electricity tariffs in a public consultation lasting 21 days. The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) is actively encouraging participation from citizens nationwide, emphasizing the significant impact that electricity prices have on households, businesses, and communities at large.
To facilitate meaningful engagement, the FCCC will host in-person consultation sessions where consumers can pose questions, express concerns, and gain a clearer understanding of how the proposed tariff adjustments could affect their electricity bills. For those unable to attend these sessions, the Commission offers an opportunity to submit written feedback or take part in an online survey over the consultation period.
In an effort to empower the public to make informed contributions, the FCCC has also made available a non-confidential version of Energy Fiji Limited’s tariff submission on its website. Additionally, an Electricity Bill Comparison Calculator will assist consumers in estimating the potential changes to their monthly expenses based on the proposed adjustments.
The FCCC strongly invites participation from domestic consumers, advocacy groups, businesses, governmental entities, political representatives, social organizations, and young individuals, stressing that public input is crucial in ensuring that decisions regarding electricity tariffs are equitable, transparent, and considerate of actual impacts on the Fijian people.
Details on consultation dates, locations, and submission methods can be found on the FCCC website. The first consultation session is scheduled for tomorrow at a venue near the Civic Centre in Labasa Town from 10 am to 3 pm, which marks an important opportunity for community engagement on an issue that affects every Fijian household. Engaging actively in this process signifies a collective step towards fair energy pricing and informed decision-making.
