Harmeet Singh’s maiden five-for 6-27 seals USA’s win over Nepal in Dubai

Former India Under-19 spinner Harmeet Singh delivered an impressive performance, claiming figures of 6-27 for the USA during a Cricket World Cup League 2 ODI against Nepal in Dubai on October 26. This marked his maiden five-wicket haul in ODIs, surpassing his previous best of 3-40 against Canada earlier this year.

Batting first, the USA set a challenging total of 262-6, thanks to opener Smit Patel’s steady contribution of 75 runs off 100 balls. However, the team faced a mini-collapse from a strong position at 143-2 to 171-5. Milind Kumar steadied the innings with a vital 70 not out from 50 balls, while Harmeet chipped in with a quick-fire 16 runs off just six deliveries, demonstrating his ability to finish strong with two sixes.

When the USA took to the field, they got off to a great start with Rushil Ugarkar claiming a wicket on just his second delivery, dismissing Kushal Bhurtel for a duck. Harmeet then took charge, dismantling the Nepal batting lineup and ultimately wrapping up their innings by dismissing key player Dipendra Airee, who managed to score 40 runs. Nepal was all out for 156 in just 39.1 overs.

Born in Mumbai, Harmeet Singh had notable success in his youth, having participated in two Under-19 World Cups for India. He played a vital role in India’s championship win in 2012, recording six wickets at an average of 20.16. He has since played first-class cricket for Mumbai, Jammu and Kashmir, and Tripura, along with a brief stint in the IPL with Rajasthan Royals.

After moving to the USA, Harmeet represented the team in last year’s T20 World Cup and has since made significant contributions in the longer format, gathering 28 ODI wickets at an average of 24.75 from 19 matches. His growing success is a positive reminder of the global reach of cricket and the opportunities it provides for players from diverse backgrounds.
