Handwashing Hero Drive: Ocean Soaps Donates Hundreds of Antibacterial Bars to Fiji Schools

Ocean Soaps, a brand under the Punjas Group, participated in the observed Global Handwashing Day of 2025 by generously donating hundreds of antibacterial soap bars to educational institutions within the Western Division. This initiative not only emphasizes the importance of hygiene but also highlights the company’s dedication to public health and community welfare.

In his address during the event, Mr. Gopal Jadhav, Chief Marketing Manager of the Punjas Group, reiterated the significance of the campaign, which aligns with the 2025 theme, “Be a Handwashing Hero.” He stated that small yet impactful actions, such as handwashing, play a crucial role in preserving health. “Handwashing is one of the simplest and most effective measures for safeguarding our wellbeing,” he expressed, emphasizing the long-standing commitment of Ocean Soaps to promote hygiene practices.

The donation, consisting of Bodyguard Antibacterial Bars, will be distributed in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, focusing on fostering beneficial hygiene habits among students. The initiative aims to encourage children to wash their hands regularly, particularly before meals, after utilizing the restroom, and following outdoor activities.

Mr. Jadhav pointed out that the company’s hygiene products—including diverse soaps such as Bodyguard and MedX—are vital for maintaining cleanliness and health within Fijian households. He noted that these products not only clean but also work to kill germs and mitigate the risk of infections. The emphasis on handwashing becomes even more pertinent during health crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, where consistent hygiene practices have proven essential in protecting families and communities.

Moreover, Mr. Jadhav highlighted the role that simple practices like handwashing can significantly diminish the transmission of diseases such as diarrhoea, influenza, typhoid, and respiratory infections, particularly during Fiji’s cyclone season. As Punjas Group celebrates its 90th anniversary of serving the Pacific, the integration of community support within its business philosophy remains a central tenet.

Acknowledging the crucial collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Mr. Jadhav expressed gratitude towards Mr. Rakesh Kumar for leading awareness campaigns in local schools and communities. He urged the children present at the event to remember that their health lies in their own hands, reinforcing the idea that habitual handwashing with soap contributes to personal and communal protection.

The Global Handwashing Day initiative showcases the collaboration between the public and private sectors in enhancing hygiene awareness and fostering healthier communities throughout Fiji. Such corporate-led programs inspire hope and demonstrate that accessible health measures can be mobilized effectively when paired with educational initiatives.
