Lewis Hamilton is set to adopt a “quite aggressive” strategy from his third place starting position at the Mexico City Grand Prix. The seven-time world champion aims to leverage what is his best qualifying result of the season with Ferrari to secure an “amazing” first podium for his team. With Hamilton’s qualifying performance placing him just behind teammate Charles Leclerc, who qualified second, and polesitter Lando Norris, Hamilton is optimistic about his chances as the race approaches.
After a challenging year at Ferrari, Hamilton finds himself poised for a breakthrough, having not finished higher than fourth in previous races this season. He expressed his happiness at being back in the top three for the first time in over a year, stating, “All year it has taken me to get here so it’s been a serious mountain to climb.” He emphasized the importance of the progress he has made with his team and their car, feeling they are finally starting to work in harmony.
Although Hamilton starts from the third position, which is generally viewed as cleaner and more advantageous on the grid, he noted that Leclerc’s placement could pose a threat given both drivers are on new soft tires. Nevertheless, Hamilton believes that he can capitalize on the benefits of his grid position, especially considering the long run to the first turn at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, which encourages strategic slipstreaming.
Hamilton’s determination was clear as he stated, “I don’t have anything to lose, but he [Norris] does. So I will be quite aggressive, I’m pretty sure.” Teammate Leclerc also acknowledged the need for an assertive start, despite the challenges posed by being on the dirty side of the grid.
With anticipation building for what promises to be an exciting race, the Mexico City Grand Prix will kick off at 8 PM local time. Fans can look forward to another thrilling chapter in a competitive Formula 1 season with Hamilton and Leclerc aiming to improve their standings against formidable competition.
