Halle Bailey and rapper DDG have ended their two-year relationship, which followed the recent birth of their first child together.
The star of “The Little Mermaid” and the rapper known for “I’m Geekin” announced their breakup, with DDG, whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., revealing the news in an Instagram story. He stated, “After much reflection and heartfelt conversations, Halle and I have decided to go our separate ways. This decision was not easy, but we believe it’s the best path forward for both of us.” He expressed his appreciation for the time they spent together and the love they shared.
Bailey, who is part of the musical duo Chloë x Halle, did not provide immediate comments regarding the split.
The romance between Bailey, 24, and DDG, 26, began in early 2022, gaining public attention at the 2022 BET Awards. In an interview with Essence in August 2022, Bailey confirmed her feelings for DDG, saying, “Yes. For sure I am” when asked if she was in love with him.
After some public speculation about their relationship, the couple took a significant step when Bailey’s pregnancy became a topic of discussion. She had initially dodged questions at the MTV Video Music Awards, leading to rumors, which DDG was slow to confirm. Shortly after, Bailey revealed the birth of their son, Halo, in an Instagram post, calling him the greatest gift of 2023.
Since becoming parents, the couple has occasionally shared moments from their life with baby Halo on social media. At the Essence Black Women in Hollywood ceremony earlier this year, Bailey described her son as a “greatest blessing” and clarified that she had no obligation to share his image publicly.
In his recent announcement, DDG stated that they will co-parent as they pursue their individual paths, emphasizing that there is no animosity between them. He concluded, “Despite the changes in our relationship, our love for each other remains deep and true. We are still best friends and adore each other.”
