The PSG defender, Achraf Hakimi, has been formally accused of rape by the Nanterre Prosecutor’s Office, which has requested his indictment in the Hauts-de-Seine Criminal Court. If found guilty, Hakimi could face up to 15 years in prison, as reported by the French newspaper Le Parisien.

The accusations date back to February 2023, when a 24-year-old woman claimed she met the footballer through private messages on Instagram. After a month of conversation, she visited his home in Boulogne-Billancourt for their first meeting. According to the woman’s account, Hakimi kissed her without consent and continued to touch her despite her protests. She eventually managed to leave his residence and contacted a friend for help.

Following the incident, she reported it to the police, but initially did not file a formal complaint. As a result, Hakimi underwent a police investigation, during which he denied the allegations, asserting that he was the target of an extortion attempt. Hakimi expressed in a January 2025 interview, “When you have success, you become an easy target for certain people. They wanted to blackmail me, which is why we filed a complaint, and the justice system has handled the situation quite well.”

The prosecutor’s request for a court hearing suggests that they are supportive of the alleged victim’s version of events. The woman’s lawyer, Rachel-Flore Pardo, stated that her client received the news of the indictment request with immense relief.

This case reflects broader societal issues regarding accountability and the treatment of sexual assault allegations, highlighting the challenges faced by victims in seeking justice. It’s a reminder of the important role that the legal system plays in addressing such serious accusations.
