Nicolas Hague has signed a four-year contract extension worth $22 million with the Nashville Predators following his trade from the Vegas Golden Knights. The 26-year-old defenseman, who stands 6 feet 6 inches tall, was originally drafted 34th overall by the Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Draft.
Last season, Hague contributed significantly to his team, recording five goals and seven assists over 68 regular-season games. He showcased his potential further during the playoffs, where he tallied two assists in 11 games before the Golden Knights were ousted by the Edmonton Oilers in the second round. A pivotal member of the Golden Knights’ Stanley Cup-winning squad in 2023, Hague amassed two goals and six points across 22 playoff games.
Prior to signing his extension, Hague was on the verge of becoming a restricted free agent, with his three-year contract worth $6.88 million set to expire this offseason. In his NHL career, which spans 364 games, he has registered a total of 83 points (20 goals, 63 assists).
In conjunction with Hague’s acquisition, Nashville is also sending defenseman Jeremy Lauzon and center Colton Sissons to Vegas. Lauzon, who is 28 years old, had a challenging season due to a lower-body injury sustained on December 31, limiting him to just 28 games where he put up one assist. Throughout his NHL career, Lauzon has amassed 45 points (14 goals, 31 assists) across 316 games playing for the Predators, Seattle Kraken, and Boston Bruins.
Meanwhile, 31-year-old Sissons has been with the Predators since being drafted 50th overall in 2012, marking the end of his tenure with the team as he heads to Vegas.
This trade marks a significant phase for both Hague and the Predators as they look to strengthen their roster for the upcoming seasons. The combination of Hague’s defensive skills and offensive contribution, alongside the additional players moving to Vegas, has set a new tone for both teams.
