Former Memphis guard PJ Haggerty has made the decision to withdraw from the 2025 NBA Draft and transfer to Kansas State. Haggerty, who was the third-leading scorer in the nation last season, entered the transfer portal on April 17 after a standout year with Memphis, where he averaged 21.7 points per game and received AAC Player of the Year and second-team All-America honors.
Standing at 6-foot-3, Haggerty had an impressive shooting record, hitting 36% from beyond the arc on 107 attempts. In addition to his scoring abilities, he contributed significantly with an average of 5.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.8 steals. Memphis had a successful season, finishing with a record of 29-8 and capturing both the AAC regular-season and conference tournament titles, although their NCAA tournament run was cut short when they lost to Colorado State in the first round.
This transfer marks Haggerty’s fourth program in four years, having previously redshirted at TCU, played one season at Tulsa, and then joined the Memphis Tigers. Reports indicate that his father sought significant NIL compensation when considering Haggerty’s next step, though it appears they had to scale back expectations financially.
Haggerty’s role as a point guard is a crucial factor in his transfer, as he primarily played this position to enhance his versatility—a role he did not occupy at Memphis. Despite not being featured on NBA Draft analyst Kevin O’Connor’s list of top prospects, Haggerty showed potential at the NBA Draft Combine, where he excelled in shooting drills and performed well in a scrimmage.
This decision allows Haggerty to continue developing his skills in college basketball while keeping his eligibility intact, with the deadline for early entrants to withdraw from the draft set for May 28. His move to Kansas State may provide him with the opportunity to further cement his status as a player capable of competing at a higher level in the future.
