Manchester City will be without their star striker Erling Haaland for Saturday’s crucial Premier League match against Leeds United at Elland Road. Haaland, 25, sustained a minor injury during training and is not fit to accompany the team. In his absence, Omar Marmoush is set to lead the attack for City.
Reports indicate that Haaland could return in time for the midweek clash against Nottingham Forest, but he will not be participating in this weekend’s match. City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed the situation, stating, “Two days ago in training he had some problems and a little injury. Not a big issue but not ready for today. We are without one top striker and we are playing with another top striker.”
This absence marks Haaland’s first missed Premier League match since May 2, 2025, when he was sidelined by an ankle injury. Interestingly, Manchester City has a commendable record during Haaland’s previous absences. Last season, when he missed three matches, the club managed to secure five wins, one draw, and only one loss. In the season prior, they achieved an impressive record of six wins and one draw during his absence.
Despite the setback, Haaland remains a standout performer this season, leading the Premier League with 22 goals and seven assists. Only Bruno Fernandes has recorded more assists than the prolific forward. With Leeds currently showing form, the timing of Haaland’s injury might not be disastrous for City, especially if he returns to action shortly.
Manchester City fans can remain optimistic about their title hopes with the strong squad depth and resilience shown in the past when facing similar challenges.
