James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, has hinted at his first choice for the role of Wonder Woman during a recent interview with Extra. He expressed admiration for Adria Arjona, known for her role in “Hit Man,” and suggested she would make a great fit for the iconic superhero character. Gunn stated, “I follow Adria on Instagram, but everybody came out [and thought], ‘He just followed her, that means she’s Wonder Woman’,” indicating the buzz surrounding his social media activity.
Gunn has a longstanding friendship with Arjona, mentioning they have known each other since they collaborated on a project seven years ago. This relationship adds a personal dimension to his endorsement of her as a potential Wonder Woman.
In previous discussions, Gunn revealed that a new Wonder Woman feature film is currently in the writing stage. This film will expand upon the character, complementing an HBO series that explores her home of Themyscira, which he notes is “slow moving, but it’s moving.”
The new Wonder Woman project is part of an extensive lineup of films in development at DC Studios. Gunn is also working on a new Superman movie, set for release in July, which stars David Corenswet as the titular character. Additionally, “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is expected to hit theaters in June 2026, directed by Craig Gillespie. Another intriguing project, a horror film titled “Clayface,” focusing on the popular Batman villain, is scheduled for September 2026 with James Watkins directing.
With these exciting developments, it appears that DC Studios is gearing up for a significant revitalization of its cinematic universe, promising a range of diverse stories and characters in the coming years.
