James Gunn recently addressed the possibility of Robert Pattinson’s Batman and David Corenswet’s Superman teaming up for a new film during Comic-Con 2025. While promoting the positive reception of the latest Superman movie, which premiered earlier this month and has grossed an impressive $426 million worldwide, Gunn confirmed that he has contemplated a crossover, though he is not ready to commit to any project at this time.
Gunn noted, “I’ve met him [Pattinson] before, we’ve talked about it before. But it’s not what’s happening right now. Everything is in flux, so we’ll figure out what we’re doing next.” Pattinson is set to return as the Dark Knight in The Batman 2, slated for release in October 2027. Additionally, another Batman project titled The Brave and the Bold is in development, featuring Batman alongside the Damian Wayne version of Robin.
In a Q&A session, Gunn mentioned that there are no new updates on the Batman projects and that the screenplay is still being worked on. His focus for the moment is on the upcoming second season of Peacemaker, which is due out next month, and on Supergirl, scheduled for release in 2026.
The latest Superman film has been met with favorable reviews for revitalizing the franchise, described as crafting a world closest to the comic book’s original vision. Critics noted its engaging character portrayals and the hook of Superman as an alien peacekeeper, hinting at potential social commentary.
As the DC Universe continues to evolve, the enthusiasm surrounding both Batman and Superman presents a glimmer of hope for fans eager to see their favorite heroes unite on screen.
