BILOXI, Miss. – Currently, we are deep into hurricane season, and the WLOX First Alert Weather Team is keeping a close watch on a new area that could spur tropical development. The forecast highlights regions of the Florida Peninsula and the northern Gulf as potential hotspots for this week, albeit with a low probability that a tropical depression or storm will emerge.
A disturbance from the east is projected to cross the Florida Peninsula by Tuesday and enter the Gulf. This broad area of low pressure could potentially gain some organization as it moves westward, approaching the northern Gulf Coast by Thursday or Friday. However, most forecast models suggest the system will remain relatively weak.
Regardless of whether it develops into a tropical system, residents can expect an influx of tropical moisture, likely bringing increased showers and storms to the Gulf Coast, particularly in South Mississippi, around Wednesday and Thursday. Some areas may experience heavy rainfall, although it remains uncertain where the most intense impacts will occur.
The WLOX team will provide continuous updates throughout the week to keep everyone informed about the evolving forecast. If tropical development occurs, the storm would be named Dexter.
It’s important to stay vigilant during this hurricane season, as changes in weather patterns can occur rapidly. With more rain anticipated, preparation and awareness will be key for residents along the Gulf Coast.
This situation serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of nature and the importance of staying informed during hurricane season.
