ArenaNet, in collaboration with co-developer 2weeks, has officially unveiled “Guild Wars Reforged,” set to launch for PC on December 3. Players can purchase the game through Steam and directly from ArenaNet for $19.99.
Game director Stephen Clarke-Willson expressed the team’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the original Guild Wars experience, stating, “Even after two decades, we’re still passionate about improving the experience of the original Guild Wars for players.” He emphasized that the dedicated fan base has always been a driving force behind their updates, hoping that both new and returning players will find excitement in continuing their adventures in the beloved world of Tyria.
Bandon Dillon, co-founder of 2weeks, also shared his enthusiasm about revisiting the franchise that he has been involved with since its inception. He remarked on the importance of modernizing the player experience to ensure the game remains a cherished part of the multiplayer online RPG landscape for years to come.
The update promises to be comprehensive, featuring all three original campaigns: “Prophecies,” “Factions,” and “Nightfall.” Existing players will receive the update for free, while new players can purchase it through Steam or directly on ArenaNet’s website. Notably, the updated version will be verified for the Steam Deck and will introduce XInput controller support for the first time. Other enhancements include high-DPI support for modern monitors, refreshed HD skill icons, rendering improvements like new antialiasing options, ambient occlusion, enhanced bloom effects, expanded font size options, improved 3D environmental audio, and a new quest-tracker feature aimed at improving navigation for players on their screens.
Guild Wars Reforged represents a collaborative effort between ArenaNet and the newly formed 2weeks, composed of former ArenaNet staff excited to re-engage with the franchise after a 15-year hiatus. This initiative, leveraging their extensive experience with the original game, aims to enrich the player experience while honoring the legacy of the beloved classic.
