CLEVELAND – The AL Championship Series took an exhilarating turn in Game 3 as David Fry’s two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning propelled the Cleveland Guardians to a dramatic 7-5 victory over the New York Yankees. The thrilling game unfolded before a raucous sellout crowd at Progressive Field.
As the game entered the critical eighth inning, the Yankees appeared to seize control thanks to a powerful show of hitting. Aaron Judge hit a game-tying two-run homer followed by Giancarlo Stanton, who then delivered a go-ahead shot off of Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase. It seemed the Yankees were on track to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the series.
However, the Guardians answered back dramatically with a two-out, two-run homer from Jhonkensy Noel in the bottom of the ninth off Yankees closer Luke Weaver, sending the game into extras.
It was a game filled with missed opportunities for the Yankees, who made costly baserunning mistakes that hampered their ability to capitalize on scoring chances. Luke Weaver, who had been impressive throughout the playoffs, faced challenges as he sought to close out the game for the Yankees.
Anthony Volpe showcased heads-up baserunning in the eighth, advancing from first to third on a bobbled play that allowed Gleyber Torres to later hit a sacrifice fly, putting the Yankees ahead 5-3.
The back-and-forth continued, with both teams exchanging blows until Fry’s late heroics sealed the win for Cleveland. The Guardians’ comeback efforts highlighted their resilience, while the Yankees’ mistakes loomed large as they reflected on missed chances.
Both teams displayed moments of brilliance and lapses in execution as the fiercely contested game showcased the intensity of playoff baseball. With the series now shifting, fans remain on the edge of their seats for what the next matchup will bring.
