Warner Bros. Discovery has officially announced a new installment in the beloved Gremlins franchise, set to hit theaters on November 19, 2027. During a recent financial call, David Zaslav, the CEO and President of Warner Bros. Discovery, mentioned that legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg will serve as an executive producer for the project.

Chris Columbus, who wrote the original 1984 Gremlins film, is returning to direct and also executive produce the upcoming movie. Though specific plot details and casting information are still under wraps, the anticipation is already building among fans of the series.

The original Gremlins film, released in 1984, became a cult classic, combining elements of comedy and horror. It centers around Billy Peltzer, portrayed by Zach Galligan, who receives a Mogwai named Gizmo as a Christmas gift from his father. The film portrays the chaos that ensues when Gizmo is exposed to water, resulting in the emergence of mischievous Gremlins that wreak havoc in the fictional town of Kingston Falls, Pennsylvania.

The franchise continued with the release of Gremlins 2: The New Batch in 1990, which saw Galligan and Phoebe Cates reprising their roles as they contended with a new wave of Gremlins in a high-rise building in New York City.

In addition to the new film, a prequel animated series titled Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai premiered in 2023, set in 1920s Shanghai. This series explores how a young Sam Wing first encounters Gizmo. A second season named Gremlins: The Wild Batch also debuted last year, expanding the universe even further.

With the blend of nostalgia and fresh creativity from returning talent, the new Gremlins movie is sure to excite fans, providing a promising resurgence for this iconic franchise.
