Green Lantern Series Shines with Aaron Pierre as John Stewart!

Aaron Pierre has officially been cast as John Stewart in HBO’s upcoming Green Lantern series, titled “Lanterns,” as confirmed by Variety. Previously, there were discussions about Kyle Chandler taking on the role of Hal Jordan. Sources indicate that other actors, including Stephan James and Damson Idris, were also considered for the role of Stewart.

The series is a collaboration between HBO, Warner Bros. Television, and DC Studios, based on the iconic Green Lantern comics. HBO announced in June that “Lanterns” had been picked up for eight episodes, shifting from an original plan for it to be a Max exclusive as part of a broader content strategy.

According to the official synopsis, “Lanterns” centers on “new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic law enforcement officers embroiled in a dark, earth-centric mystery as they investigate a murder in the heart of America.”

Pierre’s recent work includes a starring role in the Netflix film “Rebel Ridge,” which premiered on September 6 and quickly became a top performer on the platform, maintaining a spot in the top 10 English language films for three consecutive weeks. His television roles include portraying Malcolm X in the Nat Geo series “Genius: MLK/X” and leading in Barry Jenkins’ “The Underground Railroad.” He also had a role in the DC series “Krypton.” Pierre’s film credits extend to titles like “Foe,” “Brother,” and “Old,” and he is set to voice Mufasa in Jenkins’ upcoming Disney prequel to “The Lion King.”

Pierre is represented by WME, Anonymous Content, Hamilton Hodell, Sloane Offer, and Narrative.

“Lanterns” is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, all of whom serve as executive producers along with James Hawes, who will also direct the first two episodes.
