Dead & Company has officially announced a series of three concerts to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the iconic Grateful Dead. These celebrations will take place at the Polo Fields in Golden Gate Park from August 1 to August 3, 2024. The concerts will feature a lineup of notable supporting acts: Billy Strings will open on the first night, Sturgill Simpson (performing as Sturgill “Johnny Blue Skies” Simpson) will take the stage on the second night, and the Trey Anastasio Band will close the series on the final evening. Each opening act will have a set time of up to 75 minutes, allowing for a rich musical experience.
Dead & Company, which includes guitarist John Mayer alongside former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann, recently concluded their residency at the Las Vegas Sphere. The band has not performed in San Francisco since 2023, making this anniversary celebration particularly special for fans.
As part of their 60th anniversary festivities, the Grateful Dead’s legacy will also be honored through the release of a significant box set scheduled for May 30. This ongoing celebration of their storied history emphasizes the lasting impact of their music and the community they built.
With a combination of legendary performances and exciting new releases, the 60th anniversary of the Grateful Dead looks to be an unforgettable celebration for both longtime fans and newcomers alike. This event not only commemorates the past but also promises to be a vibrant gathering that strengthens the bond of the Grateful Dead community.
