A grass fire in the Rock Creek Open Space, located near the U.S. 287 and Northwest Parkway interchange in southeastern Boulder County, has been successfully contained around a haystack, leading to the lifting of evacuation orders in the area. Despite the progress, both directions of U.S. 287 remain closed to ensure safety for the community.
All mandatory evacuations have been lifted according to Everbridge, with the orders initially affecting parts of Louisville and Lafayette and extending into the southeastern region of Boulder County. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office reported that the fire had been spreading east and northeast, but crews have made significant strides in controlling the situation.
Firefighters remain on-site to monitor the situation and have advised the public to avoid the area if possible. The Colorado Department of Transportation’s traffic mapping site, COtrip, indicated that U.S. 287 is currently closed from the Northwest Parkway interchange to approximately two miles north. Additionally, the intersection of U.S. 287 and West Dillon Road is also closed, as per information shared by the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
The Louisville Fire Protection District is handling the fire response, although details regarding the cause and size of the fire are yet to be determined.
