GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – CHI Health St. Francis has announced the closure of its offsite Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) effective March 10. The health system stated that this decision aligns with broader national trends in the delivery of skilled nursing care, moving away from hospital-based services.

Steve Schieber, the president of CHI Health St. Francis, emphasized the organization’s commitment to ensuring a supportive and well-planned transition for all affected patients, families, and staff. Located separately from the main hospital campus at 2116 W. Faidley Ave., the facility is designed to provide around-the-clock nursing care and rehabilitation for patients recovering from illness or surgery.

CHI Health clarified that Skilled Nursing Facilities focus on short-term recovery with the aim of helping patients return to independent living or move to less intensive post-acute care environments.

To assist those impacted by the closure, CHI Health has encouraged current patients and families to reach out to the facility or their care team for individualized discharge and transfer plans. Additionally, families seeking alternative rehabilitation options can consult with the facility’s case managers for referrals and support.

On the employment side, CHI Health will provide assistance to its staff during this transition. Employees are advised to contact hospital human resources or their supervisors for information regarding employment opportunities or placement options.

As this story develops, KSNB has sought additional insights from CHI Health St. Francis and will post updates as new information becomes available. Those affected are encouraged to get in touch with the facility directly for guidance and care coordination.
