Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders criticized Vice President Kamala Harris during a rally for former President Donald Trump, suggesting that Harris lacks the humility provided by having biological children. Huckabee Sanders remarked that her own children serve as a “permanent reminder of what’s important” and help keep her grounded.
Speaking to supporters in Flint, Michigan, she said, “You can walk into a room like this where people cheer when you step onto the stage and you might think for a second that you’re kind of special. Then you go home, and your kids remind you very quickly you’re actually not that big of a deal.” She concluded by stating that Harris does not have anything keeping her humble.
This commentary comes amid a wider discussion about the significance of having biological children in the realm of politics, which was fueled by remarks from Sen. JD Vance, a candidate in the same political space as Trump. Vance had previously stated that voters without children should face higher taxes and described Harris and others as “childless cat ladies” who are unhappy with their life choices.
In response to Huckabee Sanders’ statements, Harris is known to be the stepmother of two adult children from her husband Doug Emhoff’s previous marriage. Kerstin Emhoff, their mother, defended Harris on social media, stating that “Cole and Ella keep us inspired to make the world a better place.” She emphasized that Harris has dedicated her career to serving all families, which reflects a strong sense of humility.
