Gopal and Chand Lead Ba Diwali Open Golf at Ba Golf Club

Mahendra Gopal and Asish Chand excelled at the Diwali Open Golf Tournament hosted at the Ba Golf Club over the weekend. The tournament, which honored the memory of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gopal, was sponsored by Anita Persaud and Tiffany.

Gopal clinched the Overall Nett title with an impressive score of 63, demonstrating his strong performance throughout the event. In the Overall Gross category, Chand prevailed, finishing with a score of 74. Raven Kumar secured the Gross Runner-up position with a score of 77, while Yash Kumar also achieved a Nett Runner-up score of 63, showcasing the competitive nature of the tournament.

In the various divisions, Ashwin Sharma topped the A Grade with a score of 74, followed closely by Dinesh Narayan who scored 75. Rohit Chandra and Kavitesh Sharma each recorded 76, rounding out the top placements, while Rajen Singh finished fifth with 77.

Damon Chen led the B Grade with a net score of 70, trailed by Namal Kishar and Abdul Khan, both finishing at 71. Eperama Bola and Adeel Khan also made the top five with scores of 72 and 73 respectively. The C Grade competition was highlighted by Harshil Sharma, who secured first place with a score of 71, edging out Amitesh Maharaj on countback. Moshim Khan and Pradeep Chandra followed with scores of 72 and 76 to take the third and fourth positions.

Novelties and special awards were given throughout the tournament, with Joeli Dakunimata winning the Nearest to the Pin on Hole 3/12, and Gopal taking the same award on Hole 7/16. Rohit Chandra excelled with awards for Second Best Shot on Hole 8/17 and Longest Drive on Hole 4/13, while Chand also secured the Longest Drive on Hole 9/18. In the ladies category, Jenny Sharma claimed the Ladies Best Gross title with an excellent score of 67.

In addition to the main tournament, a Two-Men Ambrose event was also held on Saturday, with the same sponsors recognizing the legacy of the Gopal family. Anaya Sanvi and Asish Chand claimed first place, followed by Christopher Daniel and Damon Chen in second, and Mahendra Gopal and Rohit Chandra in third. The camaraderie and competitive spirit evident throughout the event not only highlighted the talent within the local golfing community but also reinforced the importance of such tournaments in fostering community engagement and sportsmanship.
