Golisano-Led 10-Hospital Pediatric Alliance Expands Access to Care

A groundbreaking initiative has been launched to enhance pediatric healthcare through the Golisano Children’s Alliance, generously funded by entrepreneur and philanthropist Tom Golisano. This significant partnership unites 10 children’s hospitals across eight states, aiming to share expertise, expand specialized services, and provide families with access to exceptional care in their local communities.

The Golisano Children’s Alliance builds on Golisano’s long-standing commitment to pediatric healthcare. Over 20 years ago, his transformative gift led to the establishment of the first Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center, which included a pediatric critical care unit in an adult hospital. This vision has since evolved into a remarkable eight-story facility focused entirely on the needs of children and their families.

Jill Halterman, MD, MPH, the physician-in-chief of Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center, expressed gratitude for Golisano’s generosity, stating it has significantly transformed pediatric care in the region. She noted that during a challenging time for many health systems, Golisano’s continued investment in children’s health highlights the importance of prioritizing pediatric care.

Over the years, Golisano’s philanthropic efforts have allowed the Rochester hospital to care for tens of thousands of children annually, perform countless surgeries, and support more than 12,000 newborns in its neonatal intensive care unit. His continued backing has also facilitated the establishment of the Golisano Behavioral Health and Wellness Center and the Golisano Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Institute, all aimed at providing comprehensive care for children with complex needs.

Kathy Parrinello, RN, PhD, president and CEO of the University of Rochester’s Strong Memorial and Highland hospitals, emphasized how Golisano’s donations have revolutionized care for children, particularly those facing complex health challenges. The Golisano Children’s Alliance is viewed as a critical next step in delivering innovative care designed around the needs of children and their families.

Golisano expressed his pride in assisting children’s health, noting the substantial impact of the Golisano Children’s Hospitals. He is eager to witness the achievements of these hospitals as they collaborate to enhance pediatric care across the network.

The Alliance brings together established Golisano Children’s Hospitals in Rochester, Syracuse, Buffalo, and Fort Myers, FL, and includes six newly supported hospitals in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Maryland, Vermont, and West Virginia. By uniting these institutions, the Alliance aims to advance pediatric medicine through knowledge-sharing, innovation, and collaborative efforts to improve health outcomes for children.

With this initiative, there is a promising outlook for pediatric healthcare, further strengthening commitment to providing quality care to children and families across the country.
