MERRIAM, Kan. — The AdventHealth Championship has proudly announced the winners of the inaugural Grayson Murray Be Kind to One Another Legacy Award. This special recognition celebrates individuals who embody the compassionate spirit of the late golfer Grayson Murray, who tragically passed away in May 2024. Longtime Korn Ferry Tour player Josh Teater received the player/caddie award, while Susie Gurley was honored with the community award.
These awards were the culmination of over 25 nominations for this newly established accolade. Teater, recognized for his positive impact on the Korn Ferry Tour community, was nominated by fellow caddies and players who admired his genuine approach to uplifting those around him. One nominator, Chris Erwin, highlighted Teater’s daily efforts to engage positively with his peers and contribute to a supportive environment.
Grayson Murray, who won the AdventHealth Championship in 2023 and opened up about his battles with mental health issues, has inspired this award. His legacy continues to encourage conversations regarding mental health awareness and kindness within the professional golf community.
“Receiving this is an honor and a complete surprise,” said Teater, expressing gratitude for being recognized for his efforts. “It’s deeply meaningful to know that I’ve had a positive impact on others.”
Meanwhile, Susie Gurley’s community award celebrates her advocacy work following her son Will’s personal struggles with mental health. Gurley hosts the “Just a Mom” podcast, aimed at providing support to other parents dealing with similar challenges. She remarked on the honor, saying, “I think God uniquely positioned me to deliver the stories and move the ball forward a little bit. We are not meant to do this by ourselves. We are not alone; there is hope.”
Both award recipients were celebrated for their selflessness, with Teater having had a personal connection to Grayson through past golf practice rounds. The Murrays emphasized that both honorees exemplify kindness, humility, and a commitment to mental health advocacy.
Terry and Eric Murray presented the first annual awards during the closing ceremonies of the AdventHealth Championship, which took place at the Blue Hills Country Club on May 18, 2025.
“Highlighting individuals who make it their personal mission to uplift others is incredibly important,” remarked Sam Huenergardt, president and CEO of AdventHealth Mid-America Region. “Both Josh and Susie demonstrate that we all have the capacity to make a meaningful difference.”
The Grayson Murray Foundation, established after Murray’s death, continues to fund awareness and support initiatives related to mental health and addiction. This organization embodies the promise of hope and resilience, emphasizing connections, compassion, and understanding in its mission.
This initiative serves to both honor a memory and promote a sense of community and support in addressing mental health challenges. As the awareness surrounding these issues continues to grow, the positive actions of individuals like Teater and Gurley pave the way for a kinder, more compassionate society.
