Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele has expressed deep concern over the recent unrest at the Gold Ridge Mine site, urging all parties involved to maintain calm, show restraint, and prioritize community safety. Acknowledging the damage inflicted on machinery at the mine, he emphasized the need for dialogue to foster mutual understanding and collaboration to resolve the tensions.
During his address, PM Manele recognized the central role that land plays in the identity and culture of the nation. While he condemned the unlawful destruction of property, he noted that such actions are often driven by strong emotions and a deep-seated desire for recognition. “As a nation, land is central to our identity and way of life. These actions reflect strong emotions, and to address them constructively, we must come together for dialogue to seek lawful and customary solutions,” he stated.
The Prime Minister called on Gold Ridge Mining Limited (GRML), local chiefs, community leaders, and the youth of Central Guadalcanal to maintain peace and work together to prevent any further escalation of the situation. He urged patience as ongoing efforts aim to navigate a respectful and understanding path forward, highlighting the importance of community cooperation in overcoming challenges and building a more united future. This commitment to constructive dialogue and collaboration marks a hopeful step towards resolution and reconciliation in the region.
