Queensland’s tourism sector is poised for a significant boost as Fiji Airways announces new direct flights connecting the Gold Coast to Nadi, Fiji. This initiative has garnered support from the Queensland government through its Destination 2045’s Connecting Queensland Fund, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing strategic flight offerings that link Queensland with global destinations.

Tourism Minister Andrew Powell expressed pride in this development, stating that the government is fulfilling its promise to increase international connectivity for Queensland. The new flights are set to commence on Thursday, 11 June 2026, providing a vital direct air link that strengthens the relationship between these two destinations and creates fresh opportunities for international travelers.

Amelia Evans, CEO of Queensland Airports Limited, welcomed the announcement, highlighting that Gold Coast Airport is excited about the launch of this new route. She noted the popularity of Fiji as a holiday destination for Australians and emphasized that this direct flight will simplify travel plans for those looking to enjoy the lush landscapes and vibrant culture of the islands.

Evans further commented on the benefits for Fijian passengers, looking forward to fostering connections between families and friends separated by distance. She mentioned that Gold Coast Airport’s accessibility enhances the overall travel experience, allowing visitors to start their holidays seamlessly upon arrival.

The new Fiji-Gold Coast route is expected to create additional travel opportunities, facilitating connections to the United States and Canada through Nadi. It is projected that this service will inject approximately $51 million into the Queensland economy, benefiting local businesses, from cafes to hotels and tourism operators.

This new development not only promises to enhance travel experiences for both Australian and Fijian tourists, but also symbolizes a prosperous future for Queensland’s tourism industry, creating a vibrant exchange of culture and hospitality between the two nations.
