William Prowse, the talented goaltender for the Lincoln Stars, has officially committed to join Princeton University’s NCAA Division I hockey program, competing in the ECAC Hockey Conference. The 18-year-old athlete has demonstrated impressive skills this season with a record of 8-2-1, a goals-against average of 2.60, and a save percentage of .902 over 14 games. His performance has significantly contributed to Lincoln earning points in eight of his last ten starts, placing him among the top goaltenders in the United States Hockey League (USHL) with the ninth-best GAA.
Reflecting on his decision, Prowse expressed gratitude for Princeton, highlighting the supportive coaching staff and the university’s exceptional facilities and academic reputation. He acknowledged the coaches who have influenced his development, particularly Rocky Russo, Artt Brey, and Ross Kovacs, as well as the unwavering support from his family.
As of now, Princeton’s hockey team sits with a 6-6-1 record for the 2024-25 season, which includes notable victories over ranked opponents like No. 12 Ohio State. The Tigers have a rich history in collegiate hockey, having made the NCAA Tournament four times, the latest being in 2018, and they feature a roster with accomplished alumni such as Jeff Halpern and George Parros.
Ben Syer, the new head coach of the Tigers, expressed excitement about Prowse’s commitment, praising his work ethic, consistency, and commitment to improvement. Syer, who has a successful background as an assistant coach at both Quinnipiac and Cornell, is optimistic about integrating Prowse into Princeton’s athletic culture.
In the meantime, Prowse and the Lincoln Stars are set to play two home games this weekend against the USA Hockey National Team Development Program, inviting fans to attend and support the team.
This commitment not only showcases Prowse’s skill and dedication but also emphasizes the bright future ahead for him as he takes the next step in his hockey career at an esteemed institution known for both its athletics and academics. Prowse’s journey serves as an inspiration for young athletes aspiring to balance sport with education.
