Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry has warned his side to prepare for the full force of Real Madrid’s attack ahead of their UEFA Champions League quarter‑final, singling out Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior as “outstanding” threats who demand special caution.
The German international, speaking in the build‑up to the heavyweight tie, praised the quality across Madrid’s squad but emphasised the danger posed by the club’s front two. “Yes, without a doubt. There’s not much more I can say. They have incredible, very talented players. Especially in attack, but also in defense, of course,” Gnabry said. “Their attack with Vinicius and Mbappé is certainly outstanding. In addition, Brahim Díaz has been playing very well lately.”
Gnabry’s comments come at a mixed moment for both clubs. Real Madrid suffered a surprise 2-1 home defeat to Mallorca in La Liga at the weekend, a result that has raised questions about their consistency heading into Europe’s premier knockout stage. Bayern, managed by Vincent Kompany, arrived at the tie on the back of a 3-2 Bundesliga win over Freiburg, a result that offered a timely morale boost for the Bavarians.
While he highlighted Madrid’s individual talents, Gnabry stressed the need for collective discipline: “We have to be careful, obviously, not to let them do their thing. We have to show them what we’re capable of. And, as a team, we have to manage everything they have collectively.” His remarks underline Bayern’s gameplan focus on organisation and team defending rather than relying solely on stopping one player.
At the same time, Gnabry sounded confident about his side’s own attacking credentials, arguing that Bayern can match Real Madrid on the offensive front if they perform to their potential. “If we give our best on the pitch, our attack is as dangerous as Real Madrid’s, perhaps one of the best in the world at the moment,” he said, underlining that Bayern intend to take the contest to Madrid rather than adopt a purely defensive posture.
The public exchange of respect adds to the narrative of what promises to be a closely contested tie between two European heavyweights. Gnabry’s assessment not only recognises the explosive individual abilities of Mbappé and Vinícius but also flags Brahim Díaz’s recent form as another factor Bayern will need to contain. With both sides balancing domestic duties and European ambitions, the quarter‑final will test squad depth, tactical adaptability and who can impose their game plan over two legs.
