Tiffany Haddish recently provided an exciting update on the much-anticipated sequel to the hit comedy “Girls Trip.” In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Haddish revealed that she has read the latest draft of the script and found it to be quite entertaining. “We just got the Girls Trip 2 script,” she stated. “It is, to me, funny. I laughed out loud three times, which is very difficult for me to do, especially off paper. I had to put the script down for a minute and come back to it and laugh. It was really good.”
While Haddish was eager to contribute feedback on the script, she expressed disappointment after the studio’s executives opted to prioritize their own notes over her suggestions. “They’re like, ‘Well, before we even get your notes, we want to get the notes from the studio,’” she explained. Despite this minor setback, Haddish remains optimistic about the project’s progress.
What adds to the excitement is Haddish’s mention of potential filming locations for the sequel. She noted that it is possible some scenes would be shot in Africa, with shooting planned for the end of summer. This news comes as an intriguing development, considering how the vibrant settings played a significant role in the first film.
Regina Hall, another star from the original cast, has also expressed her hope for the sequel. In a previous interview, she emphasized the importance of delivering a well-crafted script that captures the same comedic essence as the first film. Hall conveyed, “No one wants to do it if it’s not… If they don’t feel like it can be funny like the first one. And so I think getting that right has been like the primary goal.”
“Girls Trip,” released in 2017, performed impressively at the box office, grossing $140 million globally against a modest production budget of $19 million, marking it as a standout comedy of its year. With both Haddish and Hall enthusiastic about their roles and the script, fans can remain hopeful for a sequel that lives up to the hilarity of its predecessor.
