San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman is set to begin his rehabilitation for a sprained right hand in just a week. After visiting Dr. Steven Shin in Los Angeles, Chapman was advised to continue wearing a splint until he can start the rehab process. This news comes as the Giants kick off a three-game series against the Dodgers.
Chapman’s injury occurred during a slide into first base in a game against Atlanta on Sunday. Following the incident, he was placed on the injured list two days later and is currently eligible to return by June 20. However, there are indications that he may be on a quicker path to recovery.
“He’s always going to be optimistic if you talk to him, so you got to temper that a little bit,” Giants manager Bob Melvin commented, reflecting on Chapman’s positive attitude. He noted that Dr. Shin delivered encouraging news regarding Chapman’s recovery.
Although it’s challenging to predict an exact return date until Chapman begins his rehabilitation, the team remains hopeful. Before his injury, Chapman was performing well, holding a batting average of .243 alongside 12 home runs, 30 RBIs, and 7 stolen bases. The five-time Gold Glove winner signed a significant six-year, $151 million deal last year, highlighting his importance to the team.
As fans await his return, the team is optimistic about Chapman’s recovery and contributions to the Giants’ season ahead.
