In a move to enhance their pitching staff, the Giants have reportedly agreed to a two-year contract with right-handed pitcher Adrian Houser, previously of the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago White Sox, for $22 million. This deal, confirmed by ESPN’s Jeff Passan, also includes a club option for a third year. With this acquisition, San Francisco is responding to its need for pitching support, having recently also signed Jason Foley.
Adrian Houser, now set to join the Giants, had a mixed performance in the 2025 season. He started 11 games with the Chicago White Sox and posted an impressive 2.10 ERA along with a 3.0 bWAR. However, after being traded to the Tampa Bay Rays, his performance dipped somewhat, resulting in a 4.79 ERA in 10 starts, totaling a 0.3 bWAR. Despite this inconsistency, his overall numbers for the season, which include 21 starts with a combined 3.31 ERA and an 8-5 record alongside a total bWAR of 3.3, show promise.
At 32 years old, Houser brings a wealth of experience to the Giants, making his MLB debut in 2015 and securing a steady spot in the rotation starting in 2019. His best season yet was 2025, showcasing his potential despite the challenges faced during his time with the Rays.
While the Giants may not have landed the top-tier pitchers available on the market, Houser’s previous performance has many hoping he will be a valuable addition. The $22 million investment reflects the team’s commitment to strengthening their roster as they look to contend against formidable rivals in their division.
