The New York Giants have taken a proactive approach in their search for a new head coach by requesting an interview with Darren Rizzi, the Denver Broncos’ assistant head coach and special teams coordinator. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Rizzi is among several candidates under consideration for the Giants’ vacant head coaching position.

The list of potential candidates for the Giants includes notable names such as former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, and current Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. Other candidates include Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, and former Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris, among others.

Rizzi, who is 55 years old, began his coaching career at Colgate in 1993 before moving on to various positions at different schools. He served as the head coach at Rhode Island for one season in 2008, where the team had a challenging year, finishing with a record of 3-9. His coaching journey continued in the NFL, where he became the special teams coordinator for the Miami Dolphins in 2010. After several successful years, he joined the New Orleans Saints as their special teams coordinator in 2019. Rizzi was promoted to assistant head coach in 2024 and had a brief tenure as the interim head coach following the firing of Dennis Allen.

In 2025, he was hired by the Broncos to assist head coach Sean Payton, focusing on special teams coordination. While his tenure in previous roles has not always resulted in success, Rizzi’s extensive experience and varied roles in coaching could bring valuable insights to the Giants’ team dynamics as they look to make a fresh start with their head coaching decision.

The Giants are currently weighing their options carefully, and the inclusion of Rizzi in their coaching search reflects a willingness to explore a variety of leadership styles and backgrounds. As the team flips the page to a new chapter, fans will be eager to see who ultimately takes the helm and steers the organization in a positive direction moving forward.
