The much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on Thursday, June 5, accompanied by a variety of accessories including the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller and the Nintendo GameCube Controller. One of the highlight titles for the new console will be Mario Kart World, but fans can also look forward to new versions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, among other exciting releases. However, securing a Switch 2 might prove to be a significant challenge, particularly for those who have yet to place a preorder.
For those still hoping to get their hands on a Switch 2 on launch day, several retailers have announced they will have units available, albeit in limited quantities.
Target will host a special launch event on June 5, operating from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time. While they will not open at midnight like some retailers, early birds are encouraged to line up for the best chance to secure a console. In addition, any unsold units will be made available for online purchase starting June 6.
Best Buy is set to hold midnight launches at many of its locations. Preorder customers can pick up their consoles, and there will also be a limited stock available for those without preorders. The retailer has confirmed that customers who make an in-store purchase will receive a commemorative coin.
Costco plans to offer a Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle on June 5. However, it remains unclear whether standalone consoles will be available in-store or online on the same day. A Costco membership, which starts at $65 a year, is required to make purchases at their locations.
Staples is another option, as select stores will sell the Switch 2 units on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of one console per customer.
For residents of New York City and San Francisco, the Nintendo Stores will be hosting launch events on June 4, followed by a shopping session requiring a Warp Pipe Pass for a chance to buy the console at 9 p.m. PT / Midnight ET.
Walmart’s plans for launch day remain uncertain, particularly regarding in-store availability, while Amazon has not listed the Switch 2 or taken preorders.
The enthusiasm around the Nintendo Switch 2 suggests a strong demand, and while many are eager to secure a console, it might take some effort and patience. This launch not only revitalizes the gaming community but also showcases the innovative spirit of Nintendo, as fans eagerly anticipate what the company has in store for the future of gaming.
