A Pap test is a straightforward procedure that can help in the prevention of cervical cancer. The Canadian Cancer Society advises that anyone with a cervix who is sexually active should start regular Pap testing by age 21. Regular Pap tests are essential as they can detect cell changes before cancer occurs, leading to timely intervention.

After undergoing a Pap test, around one in ten individuals may receive an abnormal result. Those affected will receive a follow-up call from a healthcare provider to discuss the appropriate next steps.

It is important to note that anyone can arrange a Pap test at any time during the year by contacting their primary healthcare provider or by calling one of the province-wide numbers provided on the relevant website.
