Sony has unveiled additional details about its upcoming arcade-style controller for the PlayStation, formally named the FlexStrike. Initially teased as Project Defiant during the State of Play event in June, this innovative fight stick is equipped with several advanced features aimed at enhancing gaming experiences.
The FlexStrike boasts a rechargeable battery, mechanical switch buttons, and restrictor gates to limit joystick movements for precision control. For connectivity, it will utilize an updated version of the PS Link USB adapter that is compatible with USB-C ports. This setup enables players to connect two FlexStrike controllers to a PS5 simultaneously, along with Sony’s Pulse Elite wireless headset or Pulse Explore wireless earbuds, providing an “ultra-low latency audio and voice chat experience.”
While the specifics regarding pricing and exact release date remain undisclosed, the FlexStrike is anticipated to launch sometime in 2026. The fight stick includes the same input controls as the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller, featuring a touchpad. Notably, it has a lever-mode toggle that lets users switch between D-pad functionality and DualSense thumbstick use.
Additional customization options are expected but have yet to be revealed. A dedicated lock button will help prevent accidental changes to the controls during gameplay. To ensure stability, the FlexStrike features a nonslip base to prevent sliding on tables or laps. Additionally, it comes with built-in storage for the removable restrictor gates and the PS Link adapter, making it easy for players to organize.
Sony plans to showcase the FlexStrike at Evo 2025 in Las Vegas, noting that the display unit may differ from the final product design. This upcoming controller represents a significant step forward for competitive gaming, promising an enhanced and customizable fighting experience for players.
