Adult Swim has announced an exciting new spin-off series centered around the character President Andre Curtis from “Rick and Morty.” Titled “President Curtis,” the animated comedy will feature Keith David reprising his role as the titular character.
Co-created by Dan Harmon and James Siciliano, the series will also include performances from Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Stephanie Beatriz and Jim Rash, who has collaborated with Harmon on the beloved sitcom “Community.” The storyline will revolve around President Curtis and his unconventional staff as they navigate various crises that even Rick Sanchez wouldn’t tackle, ranging from interdimensional diplomacy to paranormal investigations.
Keith David expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating, “President Curtis has always been a blast to play. Getting to explore his world more deeply in this new series is a dream. I can’t wait for fans to see what kind of chaos he stirs up when Rick isn’t around to steal the spotlight.”
Harmon and Siciliano shared their excitement as well, mentioning that President Curtis is one of their favorite characters to write and that the forthcoming series will offer a unique sci-fi perspective.
Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen praised the character, asserting that the series would have been greenlit regardless of its connection to “Rick and Morty,” emphasizing the standalone quality of President Curtis as a character.
Although a release date for “President Curtis” has not been announced, fans of “Rick and Morty” can currently catch the show’s eighth season, which has navigated through significant changes, including the departure of co-creator Justin Roiland due to serious allegations that have since been dismissed for lack of evidence. As the series continues, it shifts focus to new talent, with Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden stepping in as the voices of Rick and Morty, respectively.
This new spin-off not only expands the “Rick and Morty” universe but also promises to deliver fresh and entertaining narratives that stand on their own. Fans can look forward to exploring the whimsical chaos of President Curtis’s world.
