Get Ready for an Epic Adventure: Borderlands 4 Set to Launch in 2025!

2K Games has announced that “Borderlands 4,” the latest installment in the popular Borderlands series, is set to launch in 2025. The game encourages players to step into the role of a legendary Vault Hunter on a quest for hidden alien treasure, engaging in intense combat along the way.

Developed by Gearbox, the announcement was made during the gamescom video game convention held on Tuesday, and fans can now add it to their wishlists. This title will be the fourth mainline entry in the Borderlands franchise and the seventh overall, which has collectively sold over 87 million copies worldwide.

In March, Take-Two Interactive, 2K Games’ parent company, announced a $460 million acquisition of Gearbox from Embracer Group. This acquisition, which was finalized in June, included multiple intellectual properties from Gearbox, such as Borderlands, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Homeworld, Risk of Rain, Brothers in Arms, and Duke Nukem.

Following the acquisition, Gearbox revealed they were working on six major projects, including sequels related to the Borderlands and Homeworld franchises, as well as a new intellectual property. The announcement of Borderlands 4 confirms the first of these projects has progressed from development.

Randy Pitchford, founder and president of Gearbox, expressed the team’s ambition for “Borderlands 4,” stating that they aim to enhance every aspect of the series while introducing exciting new elements.

Catharina Lavers Mallet, senior vice president and general manager of 2K core games, noted that 2025 would be a significant year for 2K and Gearbox Entertainment, emphasizing the series’ success and popularity among fans.

The announcement of “Borderlands 4” arrives shortly after a Borderlands film featuring Cate Blanchett struggled at the box office.
