“Get Ready for a Wild Ride: Robbie Williams’ Unconventional Biopic ‘Better Man’!”

Fans of Robbie Williams are getting a first look at an unusual biopic that captures the pop icon’s journey to fame, featuring a CGI monkey depicting Williams. Titled “Better Man,” the film is set to premiere on Boxing Day in the UK and is directed by Michael Gracey, known for his successful work on “The Greatest Showman.”

The film follows Williams, originally portrayed by actor Jonno Davies through motion capture technology, tracing his path from a turbulent childhood to his time with boy band Take That, and finally his career as a solo artist. Williams achieved remarkable success with 11 out of his 12 studio albums reaching number one in the UK, along with three greatest hits compilations. He also holds the record for the most Brit Awards, totaling 13. The narrative reportedly explores Williams’ darker side, including his struggles with substance abuse and challenging behavior in the spotlight.

“Better Man” has already been screened at the Telluride and Toronto film festivals, receiving a positive review from the Guardian’s Benjamin Lee at the latter event. He remarked that while the concept might initially seem off-putting, the film ultimately impresses with its vibrant style and candid portrayal of Williams.

The trailer, featuring Williams’ voiceover, showcases Gracey’s flair for musical sequences, particularly a festive scene set against the backdrop of London’s Regent Street. It also hints at a lighthearted, Williams-esque approach to language.

Further reviews have echoed the praise, with Variety noting that the unique premise sets it apart from typical pop star biopics. They humorously point out that if audiences are interested in surreal moments such as a monkey using drugs with Oasis or an awkward encounter involving manager Nigel Martin Smith, this film delivers.
