This loss marks the 20th time the team has recorded a 1-1 standing in regional play, as they aim to achieve their first regional championship by winning three consecutive games.
Highlighted performances included that of freshman Alex Hernandez, who drove in two runs, surpassing the Georgia Tech freshman RBI record set by Matt Wieters in 2005. Hernandez now has 69 RBIs, the highest for any freshman in program history. Sophomore Vahn Lackey also shone with four RBIs and a season-leading 18 stolen bases. His impressive offensive and defensive skills continue to contribute significantly to the team’s success.
The Jackets demonstrated their hitting prowess, breaking multiple records this season. With 146 doubles, they lead all teams remaining in the NCAA Tournament, while junior Kyle Lodise now has 60 RBIs for the season, marking a rare achievement for the program with three players surpassing the 60 RBI milestone this year.
On the pitching side, junior Brady Jones struggled early but was followed by junior Kayden Campbell, who showcased his best performance of the season with a season-high five strikeouts. Despite the tough loss, Campbell’s ability to maintain composure under pressure remains a hopeful sign for the team.
