The University of Southern Indiana Men’s Basketball team is set to compete in the Geico Boardwalk Battle in Daytona Beach, Florida, this week. The Screaming Eagles will kick off the tournament with a matchup against the University of the Incarnate Word on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. (CT).
Following their opening game, USI will either face the University of Illinois-Chicago or High Point University in the championship or consolation game on Saturday. The consolation game is scheduled for 4 p.m. (CT) and the championship game for 6 p.m. (CT). Fans can follow all the action through BallerTV for $5 per game and tune in to ESPN 97.7FM and The Spin 95.7FM for live broadcasts.
The Eagles come into the tournament with a 1-3 record, having secured their first victory of the season against Loras University last Sunday, winning 91-74 at Liberty Arena. Notably, senior guards Ismail Habib and Trey Thomas led the way, scoring 21 and 20 points, respectively, in that game.
On the other hand, the University of the Incarnate Word holds a 2-2 record after facing Indiana University last week. They began their season with a substantial 98-64 loss to Colorado State University, but have bounced back with impressive wins over Jarvis Christian University (104-60) and Southwestern Christian University (109-70).
The University of Illinois-Chicago currently sits at 3-1, having won its last two games, while High Point University stands at 4-1, having started the season with a three-game win streak before splitting their last two games.
This tournament will mark the first all-time meeting between USI and UIW, as well as potential encounters with UIC and High Point. The Eagles are looking to build on their recent success and continue improving as the season progresses.
