Geekie’s Big Bet: Bruins Lock In Rising Star with $33M Deal

Morgan Geekie has officially signed a six-year contract extension worth $33 million with the Boston Bruins, bringing his annual average value to $5.5 million. This commitment comes just ahead of his status as a restricted free agent.

The 26-year-old forward had a remarkable season, scoring 33 goals, a breakthrough performance that showcased his potential. After starting the 2024-25 season as a frequent healthy scratch, Geekie solidified his position on the Bruins’ top line alongside star winger David Pastrnak, even taking Pastrnak’s preferred spot on the left elbow for one-timers.

His impressive goal tally can be attributed to a career-best shooting percentage of 22.0%. The Bruins’ management is confident that with the caliber of chances Geekie receives, he can replicate this level of production in the seasons to come.

Before this breakout, Geekie’s highest goal total was 17 in the 2023-24 season during his first year in Boston on a two-year, $4 million deal. Prior to joining the Bruins, the Seattle Kraken opted not to extend him a qualifying offer after the 2022-23 season, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent.

As Geekie continues to build chemistry with Pastrnak and potentially Elias Lindholm under new coach Marco Sturm, fans can look forward to an exciting offensive dynamic from this trio. Furthermore, Geekie expressed his desire to avoid arbitration, signaling his commitment to the team and its direction.

This contract extension not only reflects the Bruins’ faith in Geekie’s abilities but also underscores the team’s vision of maintaining a strong offensive lineup moving forward. With his friends on and off the ice, the Bruins could be poised for another strong season as they leverage his scoring talents and team chemistry.
