The Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) has expressed significant concern regarding the lack of progress within I-Taukei communities, pointing to stagnation despite numerous discussions and meetings aimed at addressing these pressing issues. Chair of the GCC, Ratu Viliame Seruvakula, has highlighted the need to refrain from introducing new subjects and instead focus on existing challenges to understand why tangible change has been elusive.

Ratu Seruvakula pointed out that educational underperformance is a critical problem, with many students lacking the necessary support and resources to thrive in schools. This has raised alarms within the council, particularly as they also note the troubling rise in drug-related issues impacting these communities.

As they prepare for their next meeting, which has yet to be scheduled, the GCC remains steadfast in its commitment to confronting these challenges. The council aims to develop effective and sustainable solutions to improve conditions in I-Taukei communities. This determination to address the issues at hand provides a glimmer of hope for positive change, reaffirming the council’s dedication to the welfare of its communities and the future of their children.
