The Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) has voiced its deep concern regarding the stagnation of progress within I-Taukei communities, despite multiple discussions and meetings in recent years aimed at addressing these issues. GCC Chair, Ratu Viliame Seruvakula, has indicated that rather than introducing new topics, the council intends to reflect on existing challenges and analyze the reasons behind the lack of significant change.

Ratu Seruvakula emphasized that I-Taukei communities are grappling with serious problems, especially in education, where underperformance in schools is prevalent. Additionally, the council is alarmed by the increasing drug-related issues affecting these communities.

While the date for the upcoming GCC meeting has not yet been set, the council remains committed to tackling these pressing matters and is focused on devising effective and sustainable solutions. The determination of the GCC to confront these challenges head-on offers hope for improvement in the future, demonstrating their dedication to the welfare of I-Taukei communities.
